Australian Women's Rugby Foundation is a not for profit national Foundation web site exclusively for Women's rugby. It was first proposed in 2011 to encourage donations and sponsorships to help develop female participation in rugby in all regions. This is especially important for those areas considered low socio economic where families simply do not have the money to support their girls to enter the elite rugby pathway towards representative honours. Some of these are indigenous, others of Polynesian family origin who have the ability but not the means to even get to team training camps to prove and to improve themselves.

Most players and supporters are fully aware that Women's rugby, whilst the fastest growing female sport globally, only represents a tiny 2% of registered rugby players in Australia. Rugby administrators have not had the resources to fund a full time female development administrator to grow participation since 2002 when the NSWRU reluctantly was forced to down size. Registered Club playing numbers have declined in many States over the past decade for 15s rugby and although junior 7s players are on the increase, the majority of these players are only participating in the hope of future Olympic selection with little interest nor encouragement to join a rugby club for the enjoyment of our 15s rugby.

This Foundation is to support the needs of individual disadvantaged players, coaches, referees, administration support and teams to achieve their potential when required during extraordinary circumstances.
